Vincent Sapienza, P.E. is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which manages the City’s drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. Prior to his current role, Mr. Sapienza served in two senior positions within the agency, leading the Bureau of Wastewater Treatment and the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction.
DEP is currently implementing an $18B ten-year capital improvement plan that focuses on modernizing facilities, complying with regulatory mandates, and providing equitable services across the five boroughs. Mr. Sapienza has tasked the agency’s engineering teams with incorporating energy efficient, resilient and sustainable designs into all capital work.
Mr. Sapienza is a New York State Licensed Professional Engineer, and holds a B.S. from Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and an MBA from Hofstra University.
