Luis Vidal

Luis Vidal is a Spanish architect and founder of luis vidal + architects, established in 2004. His most renowned and multi-awarded works include Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 in London (The Queens Terminal), Boston Logan International Airport Terminal E, the transformation of the New Colón Towers office building in Madrid, the Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro in Vigo, and the Matta Sur Civic Center in Santiago de Chile.

He studied architecture at the University of Greenwich (UK), graduating with distinction in 1994. Vidal has been a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) since 1995 and is also a member of the College of Architects of Madrid (COAM) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in New York.

Vidal served as Project Director and Partner in Charge of Madrid-Barajas Terminal T4–T4S. He is the author of Heathrow Terminal 2, opened in 2014 and selected by Skytrax as the world’s best airport terminal. He also designed the new International Terminal E at Boston Logan Airport, completed in 2023 and recognized by Prix Versailles as one of the most beautiful airport terminals in the world, where he defined the terminal’s distinctive identity through the concept of the Boston Red façade and color strategy.

In the Dominican Republic, Vidal is currently leading major airport expansions at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) and Cibao International Airport, as well as the highly anticipated Centro León Cultural Center, involving the renovation of one of the oldest buildings in Santo Domingo’s historic district. The new Pittsburgh International Airport, developed by Gensler and HDR in association with luis vidal + architects, has recently opened, becoming a new regional landmark. Vidal was also the first Spanish architect to design a spaceport in Colorado’s Front Range in partnership with HDR. His collaborations include work with Renzo Piano on the Centro Botín in Santander. In 2009, luis vidal + architects, in collaboration with Richard Rogers, completed Campus Palmas Altas in Seville—the first LEED Platinum building in Europe—earning recognition from both the RIBA and the AIA UK Chapter, among others.

Vidal is currently developing major international projects, including Phase B of the New Terminal One at JFK Airport, the Loewe Center of Excellence in Madrid, the Expansion and Modernization of Barajas T4–T4S, and Shanghai Pudong Airport Terminal 3.
