Topic: Wastewater-Based Epidemiology for COVID-19 and Beyond

Abstract:  As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the globe, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is being increasingly viewed as a cost-effective way to track the disease and supplement the results from testing of individuals. We will discuss WBE in the context of the current global crisis, specifically covering: what WBE can and cannot tell us about COVID-19; what elements of program design need to be considered related to application of WBE for COVID-19 mitigation; and what we have learned from our own research to date as well as from other research efforts around the world. We will highlight how the WBE approach can also be used for mitigation of other viral diseases and public health concerns.
