It accompanies the other CBIPS research topics pursued in the Spring Semester of 2021 including the future of green buildings, zoning, commercial real estate and residential real estate.
CYBER SECURITY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE
Smart cities of the 21st Century are those which use discernible data and innovative technology to secure and expand assets, using growth and community development expertise to assure a prosperous future all. Research will center on how to protect and enhance the quality of life that is increasingly enabled and augmented through technological changes in our infrastructure. How do we protect our transportation network when more and more we are using artificial intelligence to control traffic?
INFRASTRUCTURE FINANCING, OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
Public Private Partnerships, or P3 projects, have been posited as a panacea to the problems of lack of government initiative and civic perspicacity. Term limits, tax levy limitations and electoral polarization have often tied the hands of elected officials and their agency appointees. Research will focus on the effective use of capital and financing by being able to tap into what both groups (private and public) can being to the table and control.
PLAN FOR WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, INWOOD, AND MARBLE HILL
In support of the 2030 Plan, “In the Heights” for Washington Heights, Inwood, and Marble Hills, the Center for Buildings, Infrastructure and Public Space is focusing research on ten key issues that will determine environmental quality over the next decade or more. CBIPS Fellows are looking at aspects and attributes of open space, affordable housing, education, transit, small business retention, immigration, health and well-being, economic development and work force, infrastructure, and waterfront.
